Bon Appetit! Week 1-3

My food experiences have been a perfect combination of sweetness and tang.  All different types of white cheeses are constantly being plopped on the light and flaky breads.   I can’t help but get excited when I see the cheese oozing out of the bread pockets encasing them.  But it's the desserts that end up being the most prominent and powerful parts of a meal.  These treats are the biggest tease of all.  They leave a thick, sweet coat of butter in my mouth for hours after meal times.  I believe they might even put Paula Deen’s recipes to shame.
Just as a reminder I have been vegetarian now for over 5 and a half years. Back home I’d always eat lots of classic southern vegetables, edamame, protein bars, and salads. But in France, being vegetarian is more traditionally defined with bread and cheese. Americans tend to see these two as a deadly combination, but in France, that’s just what they do! I had no idea there were so many different ways to make a bread and cheese dish, but the French have transformed these two items into hundreds of recipes. I am almost certain I won’t have one ounce of goat cheese for years after this trip. I will most definitely have had my fill. But for now I have decided to give in to my wildest food temptation since I am surrounded by a culture that celebrates and adores all that food entails.
