l'isle sur la sorgue

     Once again, Professor Gross did not disappoint when it came to our weekly field trip for our Treasures of Provence class.  I am an absolute sucker for a good church, and the chapel in L'Isle sur la Sorgue was one of the most beautifully crafted places I have ever seen.  The outside structure was rather bare, but somehow I had a keen instinct that there was something special contained between its walls.  Referred to as the "Collegiate Church, our lady of the Angels" in English, the Baroque-inspired interior housed twelve decorative side vaults with one massive avant-garde center altar.  If only I could pick the brain of the mastermind behind the interior design of this church:  I am certain only a genius could create such a grand layout.  My flash-less photographs in no way do this chapel justice, so I like to think I'm one of the few fortunate people in this world that will have the opportunity to truly experience the wonders of this place.  As I sat in awe of the gold masterpiece nestled at the end of the sanctuary, classical music began ringing throughout the chapel.  The echoes created a more energetic and welcoming vibe that is often missing from iconic churches.  Some visitors might have felt lost in a sea of painted sculptures and ornate decorations, but I found myself strolling through one of Christ's most beautiful homes here on earth.  

Welcome to "L'Isle," and to this Church.  The Church is orientated towards Jerusalem: place of Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Its very history makes Our Lord ever present - it is the key to a deeper understanding...
